Learn to Paint at Las Cruces Museum of Art

Registration has already begun for the spring session painting classes at the Las Cruces Museum of Art. Class schedules and registration forms are available at the Museum and on the website http://museums.las-cruces.org. Classes will begin the week of March 9 and end the week of April 27. Classes will not meet the week of March 23-28.

Acrylic Painting, meeting Thursday afternoons, will focus on creating from, value, and composition. With a variety of projects, subject matter will include organic form, still life, landscape, and aspects of the figure. Beginning and advanced students are welcome.

Beginning Oil Painting will introduce students to the basic techniques and tools to paint with oils. Class will begin with proper canvas stretching and preparation. Students will then be introduced to still life and landscape painting and will have the freedom to experiment with different effects that can be achieved with oil paint. Class meets Tuesday evenings.

Classical Oil Painting will introduce students to the European realism technique known as Mixte. This is the style of painting used by the Old Masters and is often not taught. Students will learn the basic step-by-step procedure and recipes used to create luminous works of art. Help keep this classic style of painting alive in the world of modern art. Beginners welcome. Class meets Wednesday evenings.
