2nd Annual Railroad Days at the Las Cruces Railroad Museum - May 8 - 9, 2009

All aboard! Back by very popular demand, the Las Cruces Railroad Museum will be hosting the second annual Railroad Day May 8 - 9, at the historic railroad depot in Las Cruces.

All three days will feature events and activities for train enthusiasts of all ages, including a special appearance by the New Mexico Rail Runner Express and a modern Burlington Northern Santa Fe diesel engine, both available for tours on Saturday.

Inside the museum, the Dona Ana Modular Railroad Club will have model train layouts running throughout the museum and the Harvey Girl reenactors from the Railroad and Transportation Museum of El Paso will be on-hand to recant stories of early railroad life in New Mexico.

Outside, the "Van of Enchantment" mobile visitor center sponsored by the New Mexico Tourism Department, will be passing out New Mexico information. There will also be railroad related musical entertainment.

A welcome ceremony on Saturday morning will begin at 10 am with the Sierra Middle School "Sierra Soundsations" followed by opening remarks from Las Cruces Mayor Ken Miyagashima, City Manager Terrance Moore, District 1 Councillor Miguel Silva and the Rail Runner's Lawrence Rael.

Prior to Saturday's big events, Thursday, May 7, is Senior Appreciation Day. Friday, May 8, is Students' Day, special tours by appointment for large groups and activities for the kids throughout the day.

MVEDA Business on the Border Forum

The April meeting of the MVEDA Business on the Border Forum will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 from 11:30 AM until 1:00 PM at the Day’s Inn Columbus Conference Center, 901 Avenida de Mesilla. The meeting will begin with a hot entree buffet.

The April Forum will feature a panel of local commercial real estate brokers and developers discussing the local commercial real estate market and opportunities in a changing market. Panel members will include: John L. Hummer, Owner/Broker with Steinborn TCN Commercial Real Estate; Randy McMillan, Owner/Broker with NAI 1st Valley Commercial Real Estate; Donnie Brainard, President/Qualifying Broker with Alameda Property Group; and Rick Stoes, Managing Director for Grubb & Ellis.

Luncheon cost is $10.00 per person, payable by cash, check or major credit card. The meeting is open to the public and reservations are not required.
